A UN war crimes appeal trial was suspended on Wednesday after a former Croatian general claimed to have drank poison upon being sentenced to 20 years in jail. The case at the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) in The Hague came to an abrupt halt when Slobodan Praljak claimed to have taken poison from a small bottle. "Slobodan Praljak is not a war criminal. I discard this verdict with contempt," he shouted. His lawyer also said Praljak had taken a substance, and the presiding judge ended proceedings. It is not clear what, if anything, Praljak ingested. The appeals court said the institutions had not been internationally targeted, ruling: "Without a finding that the artillery attacks were unlawful, the trial chamber's conclusion that a joint criminal enterprise existed cannot be sustained." The aquittal further strains the relationship between Serbia and Croatia, the two main actors of the Yugoslav wars. In the southern part of Croatia, in the peninsula of Pelješac, one winery is taking their love of wine *deep*—75 feet below the Mediterranean Sea's surface. Wanting to combine his two favorite pastimes, winemaker and scuba diver Edi Bajurin built an underwater winery, with custom cages and secure clay amphora that store the bottles for a year and a half. But why underwater? For Edi, the ocean’s “silence” bestows and blesses wine with a certain richness unlike anything found above ground. Neither Croatia nor Serbia committed genocide against each other's populations during the Balkan wars. That is the verdict from the top UN court, the International Court of Justice. In a complex judgement, the court dismissed both a Croatian claim and a Serbian counter-claim. Judge Peter Tomka, the President of the International Court of Justice, said: "The court considers that even taken together, and interpreted in light of the contemporaries' overall political and military context, the pas… READ MORE : http://www.euronews.com/2015/02/03/top-un-court-rules-serbia-and-croatia-not-guilty-of-genocide What are the top stories today? Renewable energy is a topic that has yet to top the political agenda in Croatia, with only a handful of local projects addressing climate change-related issues. The International Climate Protection Initiative is now intervening to get Croatia's counties cooperating to boost green practices. But in developed nations, adopting measures to tackle climate change tend to require high investment. Once they're up and running, however, they not only improve quality of life, but also provide a boost to local economies. Croatia is starting to wake up to the benefits of environmental awareness.

Subscribe to Vesti News https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCa8MaD6gQscto_Nq1i49iew?sub_confirmation=1 The tragedy that can be called the main event of the week. Croatian general Slobodan Praljak, having heard the guilty verdict with the punishment of 20 years in prison at the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia in the Hague, took out a bottle of poison, and no one knows where it came from, opened it and, with the words, "Praljak is not a war criminal! I reject your verdict," drank the deadly liquid. The Hague Tribunal is a kangaroo court established by the UN Security Council’s decision in 1993. At that time, Russia's foreign policy was still naïve and credulous about the intentions of the West, that's why we voted "yes" at the Security Council, hoping for fairness in the international investigation of war crimes during the break-up of Yugoslavia and the civil wars there. In response, we ran into treachery. The Tribunal clearly selectively focused on Serbs and Serbian politicians. The processes were long and obviously tendentious. As a result, ex-Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic died in 2006 in the Hague jail, never hearing his verdict.

The International Court of Justice in the Hague ==(ICJ) == will today hand down its ==ruling on duel claims of genocide by Croatia and Serbia == dating back to the 1990s Balkans war.
